Baltimore’s gallery scene is diverse and community-focused, highlighting local and regional artists through vibrant arts districts like Station North, Bromo, Black Arts, and Highlandtown. It includes artist-run and DIY spaces in homes and warehouses, college and university galleries, municipal and nonprofit spaces, as well as commercial galleries, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, social issues, photography, and accessible events beyond traditional museums. 

Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery at UMBC

We present thoughtfully researched exhibitions and public programs drawn from UMBC’s Special Collections with particular emphasis on the history and cultural impact of photography, and we host lectures and educational programming sponsored by campus groups. In support of the University’s mission, the Library Gallery is dedicated to diversity, social responsibility, and lifelong learning in all of its activities.

Alchemy of Art

The Alchemy of Art is a contemporary art gallery located in Fells Point, Baltimore. All art receptions showcase the work of contemporary Baltimore artists juxtaposed within the setting of historic Fells Point. The gallery, located in what used to be a Catholic convent built in the late 1800s, contains two large rooms showcasing artists who represent the unique culture and talent within the city of Baltimore.

Founded by Stewart Watson in 2001, AREA 405 is located in a 174-year-old artist-owned warehouse within Baltimore’s Station North Arts District. Committed to showcasing and strengthening the vitality of the arts community within Baltimore, the preserved industrial character provides a distinctive setting for exhibitions as well as extensive studio space for artists and The Station North Tool Library. In 2022, Central Baltimore Partnership acquired the building, in partnership with Ernst Valery, with the main purpose being the preservation of this vital building and its community of artists and makers. The space includes a large gallery, and is an accessible platform for exhibition, performance, and community-based programming.

Arting Gallery

Atrium

Atrium Artspace is a gallery space located between Old Goucher and Station North that occupies the first floor of a rowhouse originally constructed in 1881. Michel Heitstuman and Matt Moses, Co-Directors of Atrium Artspace, meticulously reimagined, restored, and redesigned the historic residence, transforming it into an evocative space for the exhibition of fine art. Atrium Artspace is devoted to enriching Baltimore’s artistic and cultural landscape by championing and providing a platform for emerging artists based in Baltimore City.

Baltimore Clayworks

At Baltimore Clayworks, we sell handmade pottery and art by national ceramic artists. In addition to a showroom for Clayworks resident artists and members, several art galleries host a series of ceramics based art exhibitions, including invitationals and curated solo and group exhibits. Baltimore Jewelry Center

The Baltimore Jewelry Center is an educational nonprofit building a vibrant creative community for the study and practice of metalsmithing and art jewelry. Black Genius Art Show

C. Grimaldis Gallery

The C. Grimaldis Gallery is a contemporary and modern art gallery established in 1977 by Constantine Grimaldis. It is the longest continually operating gallery in Baltimore, Maryland. The gallery specializes in post-WWII American and European art with an emphasis on contemporary sculpture.

CADVC at UMBC

The Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture (CADVC) is a forum for research, exhibition, publication, and public programming in the fields of art, design, and visual culture. Founded as the Fine Arts Gallery in 1989, CADVC was established in 2003 as a CAHSS research center that expands the mandate of the academic art gallery in alignment with the rigor and interdisciplinary of UMBC as a research institution and Honors University. Historically, the Center has served as the university’s principal exhibition space. Today, CADVC is a forum for scholarship, publication, and experimental engagements in the fields of art, design, and visual culture. The Center also oversees the Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park and runs K-12 programs that serve Baltimore County and Baltimore City schools, among others.

Case[Werks]

Case[werks] was founded in 2001 by Reinhard Nottrodt and Matt Malaquias in Baltimore, Maryland. The two brought decades of combined experience in design and the manufacture of archival casework to a partnership with Vitrinenund Glasbau REIER GmBH of Lauta, Germany. Over the last 15 years, REIER has grown into one of today’s leading display case manufacturers with successful projects for cultural institutions the world over.

Charm City Cultural Cultivation

Founded by visionary artist Derrick Adams, whose work is a testament to the beauty of Black joy and resilience, we believe in the transformative power of art and storytelling to bridge generations and inspire change. Creative Alliance at the Patterson

As one of the city’s largest non-profit exhibition spaces, Creative Alliance’s Main Gallery offers space for artists to stretch out and try new things. Gallery Blue Door

Established in 2018, Gallery Blue Door is a boutique contemporary fine art gallery in Mount Vernon. They primarily highlight emerging and established artists, and regularly exhibit work from regional and East Coast artists. From 2018 to the end of 2021 the gallery hosted six exhibits a year, with one of them being a two person exhibition. Gallery Blue Door is now divided to allow 3 rotating solo exhibits at once, with a fourth space for a permanent exhibit from the gallery owner and director Scott Philip Goergens. The gallery is in the first floor of an unassuming home built in 1842 and meanders the length of the building providing a unique experience for the patron.

The Reinstitute is a critique put into practice; an idea generated from a place of personal growth and opposition to a fixed mode. It is a school that detaches itself from traditional definitions, while at the same time aspiring to the contextualization of such means. The school’s focus is to reorient art accreditation squarely with the artist and their relationship with the studio. Rather than depending on a value structure that relies on a historic preserve, the school will focus on programing that is reflective of new initiatives and experimentation. The school will examine the influence of the dominant structures of the so-called learned art practice and how these structures impede on the delicate relationship between artists and their processes.

Ink Spot Press Ltd is a nonprofit art gallery and intaglio printmaking workshop. John Fonda Gallery at Theatre Project

Since 1971, Theatre Project has been providing a distinct cultural experience to the citizens of Baltimore by presenting new, innovative and diverse works in the arts. Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) at Circle Gallery

Located on State Circle across from the Maryland Statehouse, Circle Gallery is an adaptive reuse of an 1840’s era warehouse. MFA opened Circle Gallery in 1968 to host exhibitions and house our main office. MFA creates connections in the community by hosting 40+ professional exhibitions annually and hosting the area’s premier plein air event – Paint Annapolis – every June. Located on the first floor of the Fox building to the right of Cafe Doris, it is named for MICA alumna and philanthropist Fanny Fox Decker in recognition of her family’s support for the College. It is also the site for the annual Sabbatical Exhibition, and one of a number of campus wide sites for the annual Commencement Exhibition. Fox Decker Gallery is a state-of-the-art, climate controlled gallery space is home to major exhibitions by local, national, and internationally known artists.

MICA Leidy Galleries at Lazarus Center

Fred Lazarus IV Center Leidy Gallery is located in the lower level of the Fred Lazarus IV Center along North Avenue. Formerly known as the Bank Building, the $18 million, 120,000-square-foot project included the addition of publicly accessible galleries, Nancy (café), an auditorium, multiple classrooms and conference areas, graduate admissions offices, and studios uniquely designed for students in the MFA in Curatorial Practice, LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, Mount Royal School of Art, and MFA in Photographic and Electronic Media Programs.

MICA Meyerhoff Galleries, Main Campus

Meyerhoff Gallery, located on the first floor of the Fox Building to the left of the security desk, is a former shoe factory converted into an academic building in 1980, with offices, classrooms, and studio spaces. The Meyerhoff Gallery is home to major exhibitions by local, national, and internationally known artists. It is one of a number of sites for the annual Faculty, First Year Experience, and Commencement exhibitions. Meyerhoff Gallery was dedicated in 1981 in recognition of the interest, leadership, and generosity of Robert and Jane Meyerhoff.

MONO Practice

Founded in 2018, MONO PRACTICE focuses its programming on abstract and reductive art by emerging and mid-career artists working in a variety of disciplines. Based in Baltimore, MD, MONO PRACTICE showcases local, national, and international artists who work in series with monochromes, modular systems, and engaging perceptions to encourage a dialogue within our community.

New Door Creative

New Door Creative is aligned with the mission to broaden the exposure of prominent and emerging artists who explore an aesthetic informed by a wealth of perception, culture, and tradition. The gallery has exhibited artists from around the globe, and is proud to have highlighted many women artists of color. Night Owl Gallery

For over 40 years, we have been helping our clients create beautiful and unique fine art collections. With three locations, our galleries house the largest collection of fine art in the Mid-Atlantic region. Traditional to contemporary, our diverse art collection ranges from original works on canvas and paper to sculpture. Housed in our off-site state-of-the-art facility, our custom framing division allows us to provide a superior product using Library of Congress approved, museum-quality materials and preservation techniques.

Rosenberg Gallery, Goucher College

The Rosenberg Gallery is located in the lobby of the 900-plus-seat Kraushaar Auditorium and the 228-seat Merrick Lecture Hall. Art exhibits have been mounted here since 1962, and the gallery was renovated and renamed the Rosenberg Gallery in 1982, after Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg ’21. Operated under the auspices of Goucher’s Art and Art History programs, the gallery presents five exhibits each academic year. The gallery frequently exhibits artists from other parts of our region alongside Baltimore-area artists to help bring these artistic communities closer together and promote the exchange of ideas and information.
