Grants and Awards

Baltimore is home to a variety of organizations and public programs that provide grants and funding opportunities for artists, including the Rubys Artist Grants administered by the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, city-sponsored programs like the Creative Baltimore Fund and ARPA Artist Grants, and mural and community arts awards from the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, all aimed at supporting individual practices and community-engaged projects throughout the city.
Baker Artist Awards
The Baker Artist Portfolios and associated awards were established by the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund and are a program of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.
Bethesda Painting Prize
Bethesda Urban Partnership
The Bethesda Painting Awards, founded in 2005, is downtown Bethesda’s annual juried art competition that exclusively honors painters from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Create Baltimore: Community Art Grants
Create Baltimore is formerly BOPA
The Community Arts Grant, produced by Create Baltimore, supports community-artist collaborative design & implementation of new, exterior wall mural projects sited in underserved communities of Baltimore City. The art projects must be free and open to the public and exist in outdoor, publicly accessible space.
Creative Baltimore Fund
Create Baltimore
Through this grant opportunity, Create Baltimore grants funds to qualified artists and arts and cultural organizations based in Baltimore City. The Creative Baltimore Fund is a grant made annually by the City of Baltimore and is administered by the Baltimore City Arts Council.

Grit Fund
Grit Fund supports projects that add to the vibrancy and development of Baltimore’s arts and culture.
Municipal Art Society of Baltiore Artist Travel Prize
Create Baltimore
This annual prize, sponsored by the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore City, awards $7,000 to an area artist to fund travel that is critical to their studio practice but may otherwise be financially out of reach.
Rubys Artist Project Grants
The Robert W. Deutsch Foundation
The Rubys were established in 2013 to provide project-based support for individual artists. The goal of the program is to provide meaningful support to individual artists to allow for the creation of new work.
Sondheim Prize (Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize)
Create Baltimore
Since 2006, the Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize, which is supported in part by the generosity of the Maryland State Arts Council, annually awards $30,000 to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Baltimore region.
Trawick Prize
Bethesda Urban Partnership
The Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District honors artists from Maryland, Washington, D.C. & Virginia.
