Stephanie Mercedes’s kinetic power hammers, sonic sculptures and metal castings made from melted weapons explore themes of repression and liberation. The dripping sound of wax, the echoes of the power hammer, the forging of new forms are all treated as music. Mercedes’ destroys castings of their face. By repeating what could be passively suffered, Mercedes trys to gain agency over their own (possible) fate.
