“Circling,” featuring recent work from Baltimore-based artists Heather Boaz and Rachel Cloud Adams, includes drawings, collage, and mixed-media pieces that evoke geometry, balance, imagined worlds and spaces, and subtle narratives.
About the artists:
Heather Boaz is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans drawing and mixed-media installation. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the the Drawing Center in New York; Takt Projektraum in Berlin; Asis Gallery in Panama City, Panama; School 33 Art Center in Baltimore; Edge Zones in Miami; and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios in Ireland. Boaz received a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Kansas and earned her MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art through the Mount Royal School of Art. She was awarded Individual Artist Grants from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2005 and 2012 and was recognized as a semifinalist for the Sondheim Prize in 2006 and 2007. In addition to her studio practice, Boaz has spent more than two decades teaching art at both Towson University and the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Rachel Cloud Adams is a writer, editor, and visual artist from Baltimore, Maryland. She is the lead editor at an advocacy nonprofit and the founder/editor of the journal and small press Lines + Stars, through which she hosts the annual L+S Press Chapbook Series and the Big Light Reading Series. Her poetry, fiction, and artwork have appeared in The North American Review, The Hopkins Review, Arkana, Gulf Stream, Salamander, The Conium Review, Cagibi, and elsewhere. Her collages and mixed-media pieces have been exhibited at the 1415 Girard Street Cooperative (Washington, DC), the Mill Centre (Baltimore), and the Fox Building Gallery (Baltimore).
