ClancyWorks Dance Company will present the 20th annual Dance Educators Training Institute (DETI) on June 29–30, 2026, at the CCBC Center for the Arts in Catonsville, Maryland. This year’s theme, “Dances of Resistance,” explores how movement traditions including Capoeira, Frevo, Samba, and Irish Step have served as forms of cultural preservation, resilience, and social expression across generations.
Designed for K–12 dance educators, teaching artists, arts integration specialists, and community arts practitioners; however, you don’t need previous dance training to participate! DETI 2026 combines technique workshops, culturally responsive pedagogy, and classroom-ready curriculum strategies. Participants will engage with both the physical practice and historical context of each dance form while exploring how movement can deepen cultural understanding and student engagement.
In addition to professional development, the DETI emphasizes educator wellbeing through sessions focused on sustainable teaching practices and self-care. Participants will leave with ideas and resources for practical lesson plans, culturally grounded movement experiences, and strategies for integrating social and historical context into education settings.
