Plein Air is a French term meaning “in the open air”. We are fortunate to have many nationally recognized plein air artists living in our region. We will showcase works by some of the most talented plein air artists working today.
Paint-Out & Wet Paint Sale: In addition to our curated exhibition, we invite all artists to paint throughout Baltimore on August 15th. These fresh off the easel paintings will be on display and for sale during the reception from 3-5.
SO FUN!!!
Amanda Milliner: Amanda is an award winning, professional oil painter, working out of her home studio located in Severn, Maryland. She paints in a representational style using modern Impressionist techniques and strives to describe everyday scenes with her own impressions of color and light. Amanda finds the process of oil painting to be expressive in itself, mixing and moving the paint around to get the desired effect. Amanda is endlessly fascinated by the challenges of piecing together a cohesive image, from one decision to the next. The artist is most inspired by the exploration of color relationships. She keeps her colors as intuitive as possible to convey her own color experience. Amanda explores a variety of subjects in her work including landscape, still life, and figure.
Amanda’s plein air technique involves careful consideration of her subject, composition, and color through the use of small sketches and a limited palette. She paints on location, within a small window of time of only several hours, to create her plein air works. Sometimes she returns to the same location, at the same time of day to complete her paintings.
Milliner holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. She is currently the Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Plain Air Painters Association (MAPAPA). In addition to her studio practice, Amanda also teaches adult art classes at the Columbia Art Center in Howard County, Maryland. The artist competes and displays her artwork at national juried exhibitions for the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Impressionist Society (AIS).
