Valerie J. Maynard Legacy Symposium: Short Film Festival

Baltimore Museum of Art
10 Art Museum Drive
Baltimore, MD 21218

Curating and Archiving Black Baltimore (CABB) and the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation invite you to celebrate and learn with us!

The first-ever Valerie J. Maynard Short Film Festival features short films by and about local Black artists (August 21, $10 registration).

A day of workshops and discussions devoted to archival know-how, art conservation, and local expertise follows (August 22, free)—capped off with a birthday party in honor of Valerie J. Maynard (1937-2022), a printmaker, sculptor, and teacher affiliated with the Black Arts Movement. Born in Harlem, Maynard spent many years of her life in Baltimore, working with the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art.

If you are interested in preserving community histories, local legacies, and works by and about Black artists, join us!

More information about the schedule of events may be found on the Valerie J. Maynard Legacy Symposium registration page.

CABB is a collaboration between the Sheridan Libraries and the Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts. This event is generously supported by the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute.
