So many, artists and non-artists alike, have been influenced by the great Mark Rothko. This walk traces a direct thread through that influence—starting with the studio practice and works of Rozeal. at SPILT Gallery (“Rozeal. On Rothko”); then, moving through the conversational lineage of Rothko, Gottlieb, and Avery at The Phillips Collection (“By The Sea”); reaching the vast presence of Rothko’s standalone work at the National Gallery of Art (“Bodies In Space”); and concluding alongside Titian, Cézanne, and Rozeal. (“Back And Forth”). This tour, guided by Rozeal., traces this thread across DC, connecting four distinct spaces in a continuous dialogue on color, space, and lineage.
