Returning to a Scottish Island:An evening with Filmmaker Allen Moore

Join us for a special double documentary screening: “The Shepherds of Berneray” (1981, 55m), which studies the centuries-old crofting traditions of the island of Berneray and a portrait of the Gaelic-speaking people. Moore continued a decades-long friendship with the islanders, and beginning in 2016, spent 10 years revisiting the community, documenting what traditions remained, and examining how life changed on the island. Weaving together 16mm outtakes from the late 1970’s with contemporary footage, “Returning to Berneray” (2026, 60m) is a portrait of a place and a filmmaker’s relationship to it.
