Chit Chat: A Conversation about Baltimore Queer Nightlife, 7-9pm

The panel will feature artists and organizers from the Baltimore queer scene specifically DDm, Kotic Couture, Trillnatured, Randi misfit, hunter hooligan, & Baby.
Panelists have all played a unique part in shaping the scene we have today.

Forced Intimacy is on display at the Peale through July 14. Featuring photographs by Aaron Brown and Perri BB, this exhibit showcases nightlife scenes of different marginalized communities in Baltimore documented over the last four years.

This summer, the TU Center for the Arts Galleries offer two distinct exhibits exploring identity, on display from July 13—August 10. As a part of the Artscape Gallery Network, Where Have We Been, in the Center for the Arts Gallery, includes the work of four Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize finalists, two of which are Towson alums. misperception, a showcase of work housed in the Holtzman MFA Gallery, is a culmination of workshops conducted by local artists, including TU professor Kimberly Hopkins at The Children’s Home, Inc, a nonprofit serving youth overcoming trauma. The public is invited to join the opening reception on Saturday, July 13 from 2—4 p.m.
Where Have We Been, an Artscape Gallery Network Exhibition
The works in Where Have We Been have been carefully selected by J. Susan Isaacs, Gallery Curator, and Erin Lehman, Gallery Director. This group exhibition explores the identities that we are born with, and those assigned to us through history, sometimes embraced and sometimes fought against, and those that we take on ourselves, often with a mix of joy and trepidation, which shape and challenge us as we move through life. The writer James Baldwin once wrote “American history is longer, larger, more various, more beautiful, and more terrible than anything anyone has ever said about it.” The artists in this exhibition, like Baldwin, confront history and present, both personal and global, that is often beyond words.
The exhibition includes work by four finalists and two alums for the 14th annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize. Artists include Lauren Adams, Taylor Andrews, Akea Brionne Brown, Schroeder Cherry, Anna U. Davis, Nicole Dyer, Justyne Fischer, Camila Franco Ribeiro Gomide, Amy Lynn Helminiak, LaToya Hobbs, Nora Howell, Nate Larson, Lindsay Cameron MacCuaig, Sharon Pierce McCullough, Jackie María Milad (MFA ’05), Lavely Miller-Kershman, Margaret Murphy (BS ’90), Katie O’Keefe, Gina Gwen Palacios, Jamaal Peterman, Scott Ponemone, Beverly Ress, Haley Sanborn, McKinley Wallace III, Stephanie Williams and Curtis Woody.
Where Have We Been is part of several exhibitions presented as part of the Artscape Gallery Network, coordinated by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts. The Artscape Gallery Network provides art lovers with an extended opportunity to enjoy Baltimore’s artists before, during, and after the festival weekend. The Janet and Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize awards $25000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Baltimore region.

Florida-based poet and educator Brendan Walsh brings his summer poetry tour to The Ivy Bookshop in Baltimore, Maryland. Join him and local authors Lynn Houston and M. L. Doyle Author for an evening of stirring literary work and performance.
Living Things: The Great American Poetry Crawl, sponsored by Sutra Press, is harnessing the fellowship of writing by connecting to independent literary communities up and down the East Coast. This reading tour stretches from Florida to Rhode Island; Walsh is also conducting interviews with local poets in each city, creating a video series that illustrates the reciprocal relationship between poetry and place.

Opening reception for mad rad soft: a group show
The exhibition “mad rad soft” is an opportunity for the community to celebrate femme-ness. Adding -ness to the end of a word is to define its quality or state of being. The artists on view express a state of femme-ness or femininity that will guide the viewer through language that may be new to them. The exhibition, curated by Joy Davis, features the works of Ada Pinkston, Ana Teixeira, Darius Johnson, Desmond Beach, Elana Casey, and Sienna Kwami. The artists on view will celebrate and honor the femme qualities of the human form and the human condition. Artwork on view illustrates different perspectives of the femme identity and forms as seen in nature, history, and through their varied mediums.
There will be light refreshments and opportunities to meet the artists and curator.
Event starts at 6pm and goes until 9:30pm
The exhibition will be on view from July 13th through August 31st. Our open hours are 12-5pm, Thursday-Saturday.

The Walters Art Museum, in collaboration with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, is proud to present the 14th-annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalists Exhibition. The exhibition showcases the work of seven finalists in this prestigious competition, which awards a $25,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the greater Baltimore region. This year’s finalists are Negar Ahkami, Akea Brionne Brown, Cheeny Celebrado-Royer, Schroeder Cherry, Phylicia Ghee, Jackie Milad and Stephanie Williams.
Attend the award ceremony and be among the first to celebrate the winner, then mingle with members of Baltimore’s arts community at a reception on the Sculpture Court. The museum remains open until 9 p.m. for this event.
