Tintype Pick Up dates: June 25 – August 1, 2026, at Current Space
Current Space still has a lot of tintypes from the past two year’s events, so please grab yours if you haven’t yet!
Free for LGBTQIA+ individuals – donations to Baltimore Safe Haven (https://donorbox.org/bmoresafehaven) encouraged.
Pride Portraits is a community event at Current Space that invites LGBTQIA+ individuals to collaborate with photographer Elena Volkova and create portraits using the wet plate collodion process.
A tintype (or, wet plate collodion) is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with collodion and light-sensitive silver nitrate. Tintypes are one of a kind precious art objects, and are very special; they require labor, mastery, and alchemy! During the sessions, each plate is hand-coated, exposed in camera, and developed instantly, with the process visible to the participants.

Vital Beauty: Narratives Through the American Body | Reception + Gallery Talk
Thursday, June 11 :: 5:30-8:30pm
@ Towson University Center for the Arts
The artists in this exhibition explore what it means to be in or from America, and the ways that this place—the land, its many communities, its history—imprints on the body itself. Through various mediums, the artists weave together stories of resistance and endurance by centering the experiences of Black people. Their works trace narratives of place—stories soaked in violence, vitality, and joy, in erased histories and in fully lived lives—that form the core of the American experience. If love is an intentional act—a commitment to connection to oneself and between the self and others—then these works imagine love as a form of resistance and risk. They explore how the effects of violence imprint on the body, impacting perceptions of time and memory, but their work also points to preservation under dominant rule through love, collective care, and action. To stand inside these narratives is to confront the fragile terrain of “truth” in our contemporary moment. Guest curated by Edmund Savage.

Objects at Hand | Opening Reception
Friday, June 12 :: 6-9pm
@ XOXO Gallery
Ideas and materials meet in the world of objects. Today’s artists and designers challenge habitual thinking about objects and our relationships to them by means of fearless dedication to play, process, and a willingness to let the audience into the conversation.
The result is an array of work that is less concerned with disciplinary boundaries and more invested in possibility. What are the conceptual potentials of craft? How do we identify with making? How do we engage our audiences? The resulting work is dynamic, generative, and generous. A playful and nuanced mediation of materials and ideas, the work shown here asks us to rethink the nature of the constructed world.
Objects at Hand is curated by Elizabeth English.
Participating artists: Sam Acuff / Hellen Ascoli / Maria Barcelo-Tous / Sasha Baskin / Sophia Belkin / Mark Cameron / Chris Combs / Dave Greber / John Herndon / Elliot Keeley / Anastasia Laurenzi / Andy Lowrie / Jude Pullin / Kim Rice / Kirsten Rook / April Wood

Architectural photography: The photographing of buildings and similar structures that are aesthetically pleasing and accurate representations of their subjects.Throughout the history of photography, buildings have been highly valued photographic subjects, mirroring society’s appreciation for architecture and its cultural significance.
As building designs changed and broke with traditional forms, architectural photography also evolved. During the early-to-mid-20th century, architectural photography became more creative as photographers used lines and bold shadows in their compositions, and experimented with other techniques, resulting in architectural photography being viewed as more of an art form.
The SE Center is looking for all forms of architectural imagery, urban or rural, black-and-white and color, analog, digital or antique processes, photographers of all skill levels and locations are welcome.
Our juror for Architect is Michael Pannier. Michael Pannier is an award winning professional fine art and commercial photographer now located in Greenville, SC. Previously based in Maryland, Michael has spent 30 years in photography, 45 years in the gallery and art world. Relocating to South Carolina, The SE Center for Photography was born as an exhibition and education venue for fine photography. Through monthly exhibitions, photographers of all skill levels have the opportunity to have their work presented and the workshops, led by industry leaders, cover all aspects of photography and challenge, encourage and inspire. Michael is represented in galleries across the country, a frequent exhibition juror and curator, portfolio reviewer and speaker on the business of fine art photography. When not in South Carolina he can be found leading photographic expeditions in Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra.
35-40 selected images will hang in the SE Center’s Virtual gallery space for approximately one month. In addition, selected images are featured in the SE Center social media accounts (FB, IG, Twitter) and an archived, online slideshow.

Vessel, National Juried Exhibition

For all of recorded human history, we have created vessels in which to hold water, food, collections of objects, or human remains. These vessels often exist to serve functional purposes, while also decorative with scenes of life and humanity. Vessels have been made of wood, stone, clay, glass, metal, and also paper, fiberglass, etc… While the original vessels served functional purposes, we now create non-functional vessels to be admired in form and beauty. Buckham Fine Arts Project welcomes submissions of three dimensional works of vessels, either functional or non-functional, in a wide range of size and materials.
Founded in 1984, Buckham Fine Arts Project | Buckham Gallery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the vision to support and nurture artists, build community and inclusivity, while challenging our audience to engage with contemporary art in new ways. In commitment to our vision to support artists, Buckham Gallery will provide a stipend of $50 to each artist selected for this exhibition to aid in shipping costs. We acknowledge this may not cover all costs associated with the shipment and return of artwork.
