On January 1, 2015,  friends of Tom Palermo and the bicycle community held a memorial ride and vigil. Hundreds of bike riders met at 3:30 at Bishop Square Park on the northwest corner of the intersection of Charles and University, and, after a moment of silence, rode to the scene of the crash at 5700 Roland Avenue.

According to Fern Shen at the Baltimore Brew, “More than 700 people signed up for the ride and vigil, but organizers estimated as many as 1,500 participated in the chilly New Year’s Day show of support, some of them wearing signs that said ‘Cyclists’ Lives Matter’ and ‘Justice for Tom.'”

They placed a white memorial bicycle at the site and Greg Hinchliffe of Bikemore, Nate Evans of Bike Maryland, and Palermo’s brother-in-law, Jeff Hulting, spoke to the crowd, in which there were few dry eyes. Although there were many hundreds of people and bicycles at the event, it was a respectful, calm, and solemn occasion.
