An Interview With Ruth Pettus
Ruth Pettus’ enormous paintings of isolated massive figures emerged in exhibitions locally in the early 1990s. Each painting portrays a single mysterious male form wearing a suit that hangs like soaked armor.

Jack Livingston is an interdisciplinary artist and writer. He earned an MFA in Studio Arts from Towson University and will receive an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Baltimore in 2025. Born in far west Nebraska, he grew up in Denver, Colorado, among the late-stage beat-generation art world. In the nineteen eighties and nineties, he was active in the vibrant alternative art scene in Houston, Texas, where he ran the lit programs at DiverseWorks Art Space. He has taught at Johns Hopkins University, MICA, and the University of Maryland at College Park. He is now an adjunct professor at Towson University and is represented by Fleckenstein Gallery in Baltimore, where he currently lives. His work is in the Menil Collection in Houston.
