This short mixed animated film follows a young film crew documenting the forgotten chaos that ensued when a black lawyer, George McMechen dared to move into an all-white neighborhood (near MICA) in 1910. The crew documents the white pushback, including the nation’s first redlining laws, making connections between the segregationist policies of 100 years ago and the housing inequalities and gentrification confronting Baltimore today. The film asks: “What can be done about the prohibitive forces that were unleashed in the 19th century that are still prevalent today?”
