Fabrication of the Soul | Opening Reception

Fabrication of the Soul is a multimedia group exhibition examining the intricate relationships between humanity and the environment through the lenses of identity, heritage, and diaspora. Featuring works by Spencer Tran, Makayla Castillo, Kimberly Reider, and Kyle Ramseur, the exhibition blends painting, illustration, and audiovisual elements to navigate how environmental destruction and societal expectations shape our contemporary lives. 

The featured artists include: 

Spencer Tran: Tran’s large-scale abstract acrylic paintings utilize intricate layering techniques and expressive mark-making to examine war through a deeply personal lens. Drawing from her Vietnamese heritage, her work urges viewers to confront the lasting psychological and environmental trauma of conflict. 

Makayla Castillo: Through paintings and illustrations, Castillo builds visual allegories centered on personal growth, resilience, and perseverance. Her narrative-driven work serves as a gentle antidote to life’s challenges, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own journeys of becoming. 

Kimberly Reider: Relying on the fluid, innate properties of paint, Reider allows intuition and physical movement to mirror the rhythm of the natural world. Her contemplative compositions offer viewers a rare, necessary moment of silence and stillness. 

Kyle Ramseur: Ramseur’s abstract paintings capture the liminal space between everyday reality and the surreal abnormalities of life. Through a deliberate interplay of line, shape, and form, he builds a distinct visual narrative that invites audiences to step directly into his worldview. 

Fabrication of the Soul directly addresses the fracturing pressures of modern life by anchoring the conversation in the diverse backgrounds of its creators. Each artist looks to their own heritage to

contemplate their personal footprint on the environment, the rapid boom of technology, and the unique symbolism born from the tension between the two. Zo Gallery invites the community to join this profound exploration of identity, nature, and progress.
