Baltimore, MD – Old tunes from the British Isles will find new life in Baltimore as folk/Renaissance ensemble Magdalena presents a live play-through of their upcoming album this Halloween.
An east-coast collective of musicians specializing in historically informed performance and folk music, Magdalena is dedicated to recreating and recontextualizing niche music in a way that appeals to modern audiences. The ensemble’s mission is to take music from the Renaissance and earlier, as well as traditional music from various cultures, and adapt it for contemporary ears while maintaining the historic appeal of older repertoire.
Magdalena’s upcoming album, to be released in 2027, explores this concept through a combination of old and traditional tunes from England, Scotland, and Ireland. In a one-time preview concert, Magdalena will play their album live this Halloween at 6:00 p.m. in 2640 Space in Baltimore.
During the performance, Magdalena will also share behind-the-scenes stories about how the music of the album has been developed.
“Some tunes have been with us since our inception, while others are brand new,” Cole Manel, founder and member of Magdalena, said. “It has been a joy to create them for a project that has challenged our approach to music, pushed us beyond our expectations, and produced music that truly feels like ours.”
The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $10-$20. Audiences will enjoy the passion and virtuosity of Magdalena, conveyed in an exciting performance of old music made new.
