Join Afro Charities on Tuesday, September 15, for Re-Reading the News: The Baltimore Orphan Girl Who Changed a Nation, an evening exploring the remarkable life and legacy of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper.
Acclaimed historian Dr. Martha S. Jones, Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor, will be joined by filmmakers and researchers to explore the pioneering research tracing Harper’s journey and uncovering the history of the Johns Hopkins Colored Orphans Asylum, an institution created for Black children in Baltimore.
Together, these intertwined stories offer a deeper look at Baltimore’s history and reveal how the life of one extraordinary Baltimore woman—and the legacy of one local institution—continue to shape our understanding of the city and its influence on the nation.
