On Thursday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m., the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) will host the Opening Reception for Rip! Tear! Collage as Critique, a new group exhibition showcasing 23 DC-based artists who use collage as a powerful tool for cultural commentary and critical reflection.
The exhibition explores how collage—one of the most fundamental exercises in early artistic practice—can be transformed into a sophisticated method for interrogating the layers, tensions, and complexities woven throughout American history and contemporary life. Juried by Helina Metaferia, Zoe Charlton, and Teri Henderson, and curated by CAH Curator Michelle May-Curry, Ph.D., the exhibition highlights artists working at the forefront of expressive, culturally engaged, and politically resonant artmaking.
Rip! Tear! will be on view from June 11 through August 7, 2026, at the CAH Eye Street Gallery. Exhibit catalogue: https://tinyurl.com/riptearcatalog
