Can You Give Me a Hand? A Solo Exhibition by Beth Yashnyk | Opening Reception with Remarks

Thursday, January 15 :: 5-7pm
@ Julio Fine Arts Gallery

Exhibition on view: January 12 – February 13, 2026

The Julio Fine Arts Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition introducing our newest Visual & Performing Arts faculty member to the community! Beth Yashnyk joined the Department of Visual and Performing Arts in the fall of 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Studio Art. Inspired by media and pop culture, her work utilizes drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and animation to create surreal narratives and environments. Since arriving at Loyola, Yashnyk’s research has centered around the creation of mechanical movement and automata to create interactive artworks that challenge the traditional gallery setting.

In this exhibition, Yashnyk explores the notion of touch through physically, socially, and digitally constructed elements. The work examines the tensions between individuality and collective existence, inviting viewers to reflect on how identities are built, projected, and distorted. Touch is an essential element of the work, represented through hands, mouths, and varied textures and materials. Using wood, plexiglass, silicone, paint, and animation, Yashnyk layers together unexpected images and materials. Through these processes, she studies the many ways in which touch can elicit feelings of pleasure, play, discomfort, and connection.

Transit: Julia Kim Smith | Opening Reception

Friday, January 16 :: 6-9pm
@ Waller Gallery

Julia Kim Smith’s first solo exhibition gathers fifteen years of multidisciplinary work addressing racism, sexism, and representation through video, photography, text, and installation. The daughter of Korean refugees, Smith interrogates truth and meaning in an internet-saturated world. Transit features provocative works including embroidered patches declaring birthright citizenship, concrete poetry exploring Asian American identity, and installations confronting everyday acts of discrimination. Previously exhibited internationally from Beijing to Brooklyn, this collection offers a powerful meditation on immigration, identity, and belonging.

Dara Lorenzo: IF UR LOST | Curator’s Talk

Saturday, January 17 :: 2-3pm
@ Rosenberg Gallery, Goucher College

The Goucher Art Galleries is proud to present IF UR LOST, a solo exhibition by Baltimore-based artist Dara Lorenzo, on view in the Rosenberg Gallery from November 13, 2025 through January 31, 2026.

Through her layered, experimental printmaking practice, Lorenzo explores the fragile terrain of memory, self-discovery, and human connection. Combining photogravure, monotype, and chine-collé techniques, she weaves together personal photographic archives, handwritten diaries, and fragments of her book collection to create works that blur the line between image and text, presence and absence, memory and forgetting.

IF UR LOST continues Lorenzo’s investigation into how deeply private reflections—self-doubt, anxiety, longing, embarrassment—become shared experiences through art. Her process-driven works embrace vulnerability, exposing the fragments of inner dialogue and lived memory that shape how we navigate the world. In this exhibition, silence collides with laughter, fear with bravery, solitude with communion: an echo of what it means to exist among others in the city, in ritual, and in fleeting, fragile moments of human connection.

Mary E. Nyburg Fund for Artist Development

deadline January 15
posted by Baltimore Clayworks

The Mary E. Nyburg Fund for Artist Development is an endowment fund begun in 2007 by friends and family of Mary Nyburg. Mary was a respected potter nationally, a crafts advocate, a board member of Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, a life-long supporter of Baltimore Clayworks, where she was at one time a Resident Artist. Following Mary’s death in April 2006, a fund was created in her honor to award a stipend each year to allow a period of devoted study that would deepen an artist’s work in clay and also strengthen the Baltimore Clayworks community. The stipend, awarded to one artist annually, helps support travel, study, and/or work in a community outside of Baltimore. Once completed, the artist is required to conduct a presentation or workshop to share their experience with the Baltimore Clayworks community.

Request for Qualifications – B Side Mural Project

deadline January 16
posted by Visit Baltimore and Create Baltimore

Visit Baltimore and Create Baltimore (formerly known as BOPA) are requesting qualifications from Baltimore-based artists and artist teams to design and install an outdoor public mural scheduled for completion in April 2026.

This project is a part of Visit Baltimore’s B-Side campaign. Inspired by the “B-Side” of an album, which is known to have the deeper, undiscovered tracks of an album, this campaign invites people to do the same with Baltimore: to turn over the surface-level narrative and listen to what’s been overlooked.

Create Baltimore will collaborate with Visit Baltimore and community stakeholders to identify a location for the mural. Three finalists will be selected based on their qualifications and work samples provided. The selected finalists will each receive a $500 stipend to create a proposed mural design. One design will be chosen for installation.

A commission of $10,000 will be paid in full to the selected artist(s) to realize their proposed concept. A separate budget of $5,500 has been allocated for all materials, including equipment rentals if needed.

Call for Entries, The Woman’s Gaze

deadline February 1
posted by SE Center for Photography

The history of photography has a long tradition of representing women as subjects but has less to say about women as artists. Today, the roles of women in photography are both behind the camera and in front of it. Who understands women better than women? The female perspective offers an important view of the many facets of womanhood and women’s role in society. This exhibition seeks women photographers who explore and celebrate the myriad ways that they render female-identifying subjects.

ICE OUT OF BALTIMORE Fundraiser Art Exhibit

deadline February 9
posted by Baltimore Artists Against Apartheid

As nationwide opposition grows against violent ICE raids and deportations – and as the Trump administration responds with military force to silence protests – we’re calling on artists and designers to create work that speaks to this urgent moment.

From Palestine to Mexico, all the walls have got to go! As Baltimore Artists Against Apartheid, we know the fight for a Free Palestine is deeply connected to the struggle against violence toward immigrant communities here in the U.S. As artists, we have a responsibility to speak out against the brutality of this administration and the racist system driving deportations at home and genocide abroad.

People across the country are refusing to be silent as ICE terrorizes our communities. This art call invites artists of Baltimore to submit artwork that uplifts the fight for immigrant rights and demands: ICE OUT OF BALTIMORE!

We are accepting submissions of artworks of all mediums for the ICE Out of Baltimore fundraiser art exhibit, which will be at Waller Gallery for a month-long exhibition featuring the visual art submissions and poetry. The exhibition starts on March 6th and will include a reception on March 13th. In the lead-up, there will also be a pop-up event at Making Space Baltimore on Saturday, February 21st, with performances and workshops.
