ARTificial | Closing Reception + Screening
Thursday, March 12:: 6-8pm
@ Maryland Art Place
Maryland Art Place (MAP) is excited to announce ARTificial, an exhibition in critical discourse with the utilization, implementation and innovation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in art making. ARTificial aims to explore the varied ways in which artists engage with AI and how it has shaped the arts since its inception. As access to AI tools increase – our engagement with AI informs how we interface with the environment, our communities, and our work.All artworks exhibited do not necessarily utilize AI – but challenge our perception of media, technology and digitization. Exhibiting artists critique, engage, reimagine and challenge AI as [simultaneously] a tool and collaborator – AI is a system shaped by human decisions, datasets and cultural assumptions – artists in dialogue with AI are unavoidably considering concepts surrounding ethics, authorship, bias and posthumanist sentiments. Collectively, the exhibition invites sustained reflection on how algorithmic technologies reshape aesthetic production and cultural meaning.
ARTificial is on view Thursday, January 22 – Mar 14, 2026.

Pandora’s BoxX Project: A Panel Discussion In Celebration of Women Artists and Cultural Visionaries
Saturday, March 14:: 3m
@ Kreeger Museum
Pandora’s BoxX is a photographic portrait project by Grace Roselli bringing together 360 portraits of women artists and cultural practitioners—cis, trans, and non-binary—who have shaped the visual arts from the 1960s to the present. Each portrait begins with a direct encounter in the subject’s own environment: an act of showing up and witnessing that cannot be outsourced or substituted. Sitters look directly into the camera and select the image that represents them, ensuring the portrait reflects how they wish to be seen. Spanning six decades of creative labor, the project forms an intergenerational record that asks who is remembered, who is left out, and how histories are built. These artists and visionaries are not only witnesses to art history—they are its authors.
Pandora’s BoxX Project: A Panel Discussion In Celebration of Women Artists and Cultural Visionaries’ brings together four women from the project’s multigenerational network of artists and art workers for a candid conversation about what it means to build a creative life over time. Moving from beginnings to visibility and survival, and ultimately to legacy, the panel will explore the influences that first sparked their paths, the realities of sustaining a practice, and the ways artists shape cultural memory for the generations that follow.
Guests may arrive at 2:00pm to visit the galleries before the panel.
Parking onsite is extremely limited and the use of rideshare is strongly encouraged.

“Black-Eyed Susans: 50 Years of Creativity In Bloom–A Temporary Public Art Installation”.
deadline March 20
posted by the Frederick Arts Council
The Frederick Arts Council has opened a call to artists for an upcoming county-wide, temporary public art installation, “Black-Eyed Susans: 50 Years of Creativity In Bloom–A Temporary Public Art Installation”.
The exhibition will run throughout 2026 in various locations in Frederick County, Md with the first installation site in front of the YAAC, at 115 E Church St, Frederick.
“50 Years of Creativity InBloom” invites Maryland artists and artist teams to propose designs for a temporary public art installation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Frederick Arts Council. This project will transform a public landscape through the massed repetition of individual Black-Eyed Susans, Maryland’s state flower, as a symbol of growth and renewal. Using the Black-Eyed Susan as a shared form, this project envisions vibrant fields that celebrate blossoming ideas, deep roots, planted seeds, and a future shaped together. Through repetition, color, and scale, the installation will transform a public landscape into a place of brightness, imagination, and forward momentum. The Black-eyed Susan is a flower rich in symbolism, offering messages of hope, truth, resilience and healing. Must be a Maryland artist.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the individual Black-Eyed Susan broadly—literal, abstracted, symbolic, or experimental—while contributing to a cohesive visual experience that feels alive, expansive, and optimistic.
Artists may propose materials of their choosing. Collaborative proposals welcome. This opportunity is open to professional artists and artist teams. Proposals will be reviewed based on: Artistic vision and originality, alignment with themes of growth, innovation, and optimism, feasibility, thoughtful use of materials, and production plan, the ability to create a strong collective visual impact, and the potential for collaboration and public engagement.
