ARTIST FRED WILSON: SPEAK OF ME AS I AM, THE 32ND ANNUAL THEODORE L. LOW LECTURE

Sunday, November 18, 2012, 2-3 p.m.
FREE
Artist Fred Wilson, U.S. representative for the 2003 Venice Biennale will speak about his exhibition “Speak of Me as I Am” and related works that imagine the psychological state of Africans in Venice in the 16th and 17th centuries. In his talk about the 2003 installation, Wilson touches on the irony of the hidden-in-plain-sight history of Africans in Venice and its effect on the contemporary Venetian unconscious. This program is held in conjunction with the Walters’ special exhibition Revealing the African Presence in Renaissance Europe. Reception follows at the conclusion of the program.

This is the 32nd Annual Theodore L. Low Lecture. This lecture honors the memory of Theodore L. Low, Director of Education and Public Programs at the Walters Art Museum for 34 years.
