Art I’d Buy: Selections from the WPA Auction

Bmore Music Picks is a new weekly feature that highlights a few shows, concerts, or events to check out in Baltimore and the surrounding area. While it’s not a comprehensive events calendar, our picks are diverse and may highlight jazz, rock, folk, noise, punk, hip-hop, R&B, experimental or just about any other sub-genre or style that helps make Baltimore’s music scene varied and vibrant. For a more comprehensive events calendar check out baltimorefunguide.com, showspace.tumblr.com, weekly.citypaper.com or whatweekly.com.

Wednesday, March 26th – Ms. Baltimore (saxophone) & Jay Reese (piano)
The Beatnik, 2101 Maryland Ave at 9 PM – free

I had the pleasure of catching this duo for the first time two weeks ago and it was quite a treat. Their upbeat jazz is the perfect pairing to one of owner, Steve Carson’s specialty cocktails.

Friday, March 28th – Caleb Stine
Carrol Community College Theater in the Scott Center, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, MD  at 7:30 PM – $5

Local singer/songwriter, Caleb Stine is gearing up for a new album, Maybe God is Lonely Too, which drops in April. Although this show is a bit of drive from Baltimore, it’s worth it to see Stine, who is one of Baltimore’s most honest and striking songwriters.

Friday, March 28th – Slow Jerks / Thee Lolitas / Quitter / Dirty Ol Laz & Big Boy / Flying Faders
Gold Bar, 1910 N. Charles St. (2nd floor) doors at 8 PM – donation

This should be a raucous punk rock show with Slow Jerks and company, so expect it to be loud and sweaty. It’s a donation-based event, with the proceeds going to the family of Windian Records founder, Travis Jackson, who died in January.

More info here.
