The Broken Rainbow

At BmoreArt, we love the internet for the delivery of all sorts of art related information. It’s fast. It’s effective. It elicits surprising responses. However, there is nothing that can replace the aesthetic and tactile experience of holding a beautiful printed object in your hands.

Our second print journal is due out this June and it rivals the first in beautiful good-smelling papery-ness. Issue Two’s theme is Money – and in it we tackle the art-money conundrum from a number of angles. Our contributors talked to Baltimore-based artists about their creative day jobs, explored the cost and variety of supplies, and created a photo essay featuring some of the artists who have won a growing number of grants and financial awards in the region. Our contributors explored the impact of money in one historic Baltimore neighborhood, profiled creative entrepreneurs, and interviewed philanthropists, collectors, and local artists whose careers are finding a national spotlight.

You might have heard… we’re hosting a celebration on June 4! We hope you will join us, the contributors and participants in Issues 1 and 2, for an evening at Area 405, complete with an amazing art-and-popsicle collaboration from Krystal Mack and Alice Gadzinski, a signature cocktail, Union Craft Beer, an art auction featuring contributors and featured artists, ballon sculpture, and sweet tunes from DJ Dude Diligence.

Contributors this time around include Kelvin Bulluck, Julie Scharper, Alex Fine, JM Giordano, E. Brady Robinson, Tommy Bruce, Joe Hyde, Kerr Houston, Bret McCabe, Ashley Minner, Cara Ober, Sean Scheidt, and Justin Tsucalas with design by Tony Venne.

For more info and tickets, check out our event site here. Each ticket includes refreshments and a copy of Issue 2.

And — I made my first GIF! These are some of the covers we considered for Issue 2. It’s too late now, but feel free to let us know which one is your favorite!

See you next weekend! Gif below created by Cat Thomas with photos by Theresa Keil at BmoreArt’s Launch Party 1!
