MICA presents an exhibition highlighting the work of 22 participants in MICA’s celebrated artist-in-residency program, as well as a small selection of paintings by Trafford Klots.
MICA@Rochefort-en-Terre: MICA Artists, Rochefort Alumni is on view Saturday, May 29-Sunday, June 20, with a reception on Tuesday, June 8, 5:30-7 p.m., in the Fox Building’s Meyerhoff and Decker galleries (1303 W. Mount Royal Ave.).
Rochefort-en-Terre (rock in the earth) is frequently described as a place where “special things happen.” As the setting for MICA’s noted artist-in-residence program, Rochefort-en-Terre offers a take on light, color, landscape and air like few other places on earth. Located in Brittany, France, the medieval village has been designated a Petite Cité de Caractère (village of character) and is home to many creative craft and fine artists.

Drawing from an alternate sense of history and time, MICA Rochefort-en-Terre artists translate deeply etched memories into a broad range of expression. Although traditionally associated with plein air painting (literally translated as in the open air), MICA@Rochefort-en-Terre: MICA Artists, Rochefort Alumni showcases an array of media that includes not only plein air, but also the wider painting genre, photography, mixed media, illustration and installation. With the opportunity to devote time and attention to the moment, each artist interprets the nuance of place and existence; reflecting on the force of inspiration-transporting the viewer into the Brittany landscape of color, light, air and beyond.
