Creative Alliance is proud to present the Resident Artists Reunion Group Exhibition. Nearly 50 artists have made The Patterson’s eight studios, where they live and work, a home since 2003 after the Creative Alliance redeveloped the vacant Patterson Movie Theater into Baltimore’s premier multi-arts center. Serving as a regional cultural incubator and neighborhood revitalization engine, the dynamic Patterson’s eight artists’ studios are a cornerstone of the visual arts programming at the Creative Alliance and an anchor to Highlandtown’s Arts & Entertainment District.
The Creative Alliance Residency Program provides a highly visible, intense, and creative environment for the production of multi-disciplinary art. The Residency Program accommodates eight resident artists or artist groups, one in each of the studios, for terms of one to three years.
For the Reunion Exhibition, former resident artists will contribute significant work from their time at the Creative Alliance, or create new work for the occasion. With numerous styles, media, and subject matter represented – every viewer will have something to seek out within the show. Those curious about what life is like as a Resident Artist at the Creative Alliance will benefit from a panel discussion on March 9th with former residents led by Baker Award winner Paul Rucker. The artists will share their experiences living and working at the Creative Alliance, and how their residencies have impacted the direction of their current careers.
Many former Creative Alliance Resident Artists have moved on to prominent positions in Baltimore and in the national and international arts communities. Taking a look back on the success of these talented, multi-disciplinary artists affords the artistic community the opportunity to reflect upon the success of the program and the ambitions for the future of the Creative Alliance itself at the start of our giant 21st birthday celebration.
