It’s National Farmers’ Market Week, so let’s celebrate the Sunday morning Baltimore Farmers’ Market and its fantastic people watching. For nearly five decades, the Downtown institution has done more than feed people—it’s brought people together. Under the Jones Falls Expressway, fresh produce, flowers, local food, music, and conversation create a weekly ritual that feels as much about community as it does agricultural commerce.

“Create Baltimore is proud to manage the market on behalf of the city and play a part in the work of food accessibility and the weekly routine of so many attendees,” says Tia Goodson from the city arts council. “For 49 years, the Baltimore Farmers’ Market has nourished Baltimore not only through fresh food, but through community. Many small businesses launched here, it’s a meeting place for relatives and friends on purpose or by chance. And the underpass comes alive around handmade cutting boards, mango sticky rice, and corn on the cob. For many, it’s a staple to starting their week from a place of joy.”

This edition of SEEN focuses on the people who give the market its character—neighbors carrying sunflowers, friends meeting over coffee, bold personal style, families, artists, vendors, and first-time visitors crossing paths. Every portrait is a reminder that the Baltimore Farmers’ Market is more than a place to buy local. It is one of the city’s most welcoming public spaces, where individual expression and community come together every Sunday.
